While the name Silver Arrows was given to only Mercedes racecars of the 1930s, Mercedes racecars thereafter were often recognized for their brilliant silver paint. Legend has it that during the early days of Mercedes in motorsport, paint was removed from their participating cars in extreme attempts to trim down weight thus revealing the cars' bright silver aluminum bodywork underneath. As a result, Silver Arrows was the name coined for what may be regarded as some of the most beautiful racecars ever built.
